Hospice Hjerterummet is a proposal for a sustainable children’s hospice located in Aalborg East, near the new Aalborg University Hospital and adjacent natural landscapes. Addressing the lack of pediatric palliative 
 
care facilities in Denmark, the project aims to create a calm, supportive, and homely environment for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The project is developed through a combination of Integrated Design Process (IDP) and Evidence-Based Design (EBD), ensuring that each architectural decision is both user-centered and research-informed. It explores how architecture can promote emotional well-being and physical relief, while integrating sustainability through a healthy indoor climate, and close connections to nature. The layout consists of six private family units, central communal areas, and treatment rooms organized around the building’s heart: the Heartroom - a flexible space for play, rest, and togetherness. 
 
Nature is incorporated through a sensory garden, a memorial pergola, and accessible outdoor spaces that support emotional healing and reflection. This thesis reimagines the children’s hospice not as an institution, but as a temporary home - a place of comfort, connection, and humanity during life’s most vulnerable moments.

Hospice Hjerterummet er et forslag til et bæredygtigt børnehospice beliggende i Aalborg Øst, nær det nye Aalborg Universitetshospital og de omkringliggende naturområder. Projektet adresserer manglen på palliative tilbud til børn i Danmark og har til formål at skabe et roligt, støttende og hjemligt miljø for børn med livstruende sygdomme og deres familier. 
 
Projektet er udviklet gennem en kombination af Integreret Designproces (IDP) og Evidensbaseret Design (EBD), hvilket sikrer, at hver arkitektonisk beslutning er både brugerinvolveret og forskningsunderbygget. Det undersøger, hvordan arkitektur kan fremme følelsesmæssigt velvære og fysisk lindring, samtidig med at bæredygtighed integreres gennem et sundt indeklima og tætte forbindelser til naturen. 

Planløsningen består af seks private familieenheder, centrale fællesarealer og behandlingsrum, organiseret omkring bygningens hjerte: Hjerterummet – et fleksibelt rum til leg, hvile og samvær. 

Naturen inddrages gennem en sansehave, en mindepergola og tilgængelige udendørsarealer, der understøtter følelsesmæssig heling og refleksion. Specialet gentænker børnehospicet – ikke som en institution, men som et midlertidigt hjem – et sted for tryghed, nærvær og menneskelighed i livets mest sårbare øjeblikke.
