This thesis presents the transformation of Hæstrupgård, an old manor of high architectural quality, located in northern Jutland, south of Hjørring. Denmark is an agricultural society with proud traditions. Agriculture still occupies two-thirds of the country, but structural changes and new reforms have altered the agrarian culture and our perception of it. Today, farms have merged into large companies, leaving unused buildings to decay or demolition. All of the empty buildings are, however, a part of telling the Danish agricultural history and culture. Sustainability is a significant factor in contemporary architecture, and with the building sector being one of the largest contributors to emissions, this project wishes to challenge the current building practices by thinking in new directions, where old buildings and materials are reused to a larger degree. 
 
Transforming a building as Hæstrupgård requires a comprehensive examination and understanding of the existing building volume, its context and its qualities. Accordingly, most of the analyses revolve around examining Hæstrupgård, evaluating and understanding the history, details and soul embedded in the buildings. This thesis aims to create a retreat that revitalises Hæstrupgård and retells its embedded history, through new functionalities that embrace the past, the present and the future.

Dette speciale omhandler transformationen af Hæstrupgård, en gammel herregård af høj arkitektonisk kvalitet beliggende i Nordjylland, syd for Hjørring. Danmark er et landbrugssamfund med stolte traditioner. Landbruget udgør stadig to-tredjedele af landområderne, men strukturelle ændringer og nye reformer har ændret landbrugskulturen og vores opfattelse af landbruget. I dag er gårdene samlet i større virksomheder, og mange tomme landbrugsbygninger er efterladt til forfald eller nedrivning. Alle disse tomme bygninger er dog en stor del af fortællingen om det danske landbrugs historie og kultur. Bæredygtighed er en betydelig faktor i moderne arkitektur og byggesektoren er i dag en af de største når det kommer til udledning af CO2. Dette projekt ønsker derfor at udfordre de gængse byggeskikke ved at tænke i nye retninger og genbruge disse tomme landbrugsbygninger og materialer i en højere grad end i dag. 
  
At transformere en bygning som Hæstrupgård kræver omfattende undersøgelser og forståelse af de eksisterende bygninger, deres kontekst og de kvaliteter der foreligger i netop disse. Derfor har en stor del af analyserne omhandlet at studere og evaluere Hæstrupgård med hensyn til herregårdens historie, detaljer og den sjæl der forefindes i bygninger af denne karakter. Dette speciale har søgt at skabe et refugium der giver nyt liv til Hæstrupgård og fortæller gårdens historie, gennem etablering af nye funktioner der omfavner fortiden, nutiden og fremtiden.
