Abstract dansk:  

Denne afhandling undersøger en afinstitutionalisering af botilbuddet og social- og aktivitetscenteret for mennesker med kognitive og/eller fysiske funktionsnedsættelser gennem en bæredygtig, bevaringsorienteret transformation af Skansevejens Skole i Nørresundby, Danmark. Projektet undersøger, hvordan institutionen kan hjemliggøres og ønsker derigennem at skabe et socialt inkluderende miljø, der styrker brugernes autonomi og revitaliserer området i samspil med den omkringliggende kontekst.

Gennem identifikation af brugernes behov samt undersøgelser gennem livscyklusvurderinger (LCA) og dagslyssimuleringer etablerer projektet et fundament for at skabe et bæredygtigt og inkluderende design, samtidig med at den oprindelige bygnings sociale, historiske og arkitektoniske værdier respekteres.

Abstract engelsk: 

This thesis explores a deinstitutionalization of the Residential Care Home and Social & Activity Center for people with cognitive and/or physical disabilities through a sustainable preservation-oriented transformation of Skansevejens Skole located in Nørresundby, Denmark. The project explores a domestication of the institution creating a social inclusive environment that enhances the users´ autonomy and revitalizes the area in relation to the surrounding context  

Through an identification of user needs and investigations of life cycle assessment and daylight simulations the project sets its foundation in creating a sustainable inclusive design while respecting the social, historical and architectural value of the original building
