Vi har længe vist at prioriteringen af privatbilisme i urbane mobilitetssystemer, ikke alene bidrager til klimaforandringerne, men også har negativ indflydelse på byliv. Projektet undersøger hvordan byer kan transformeres til at understøtte bæredygtige mobilitetsformer og byliv gennem en inddragelsesproces designet til at skabe fælles billeder på fremtidens gader i Aalborg.

Vi forslår at det er nødvendigt at vende hierarkiet mellem biler og aktive mobilitetsformer, og at det kræver en ændring i vores tankegange, processer og designløsninger. En hovedudfordring er, at vi, på grund af mentale trægheder, har meget svært ved at forestille os at gader kunne være anderledes. Det er derfor nødvendigt at designe sammen med borgerne for at skabe fælles visioner for fremtiden. Til at guide processen har vi udviklet en model for gadens brugere, der kategoriserer brugere på baggrund af deres motivation for at være i gaden, frem for deres modalitet og evner, hvilket muliggør stedspecifikt design.

We have known for a long time that the prioritization of cars in urban mobility systems not only contributes to the climate crisis, but also negatively affects the quality of urban life. This project explores how cities can transform to support sustainable mobilities and urban life through a participatory process of collective imagination and co-transformation of streets in Aalborg.

We propose that the hierarchy between cars and active mobilities must be flipped, and that doing so requires a change of mindset, process, and design. A key barrier in this transformation is the inability to imagine how streets could be different due to mental frictions. To overcome these, we must design with citizens to shape shared future visions. To guide participatory urban street transformations, we have developed the Street Users Model, where users of the street are understood by their motivation for using the space, rather than by their modality or abilities. This enables us to focus on primary users, resulting in site- and user-specific design.
