Dette speciale undersøger adaptiv genanvendelse af Hedegaard Siloen ved Stigsborg Havnefront i Nørresundby, Danmark, som en strategi til at transformere industriel kulturarv til en moderne kulturel destination. Motiveret af betonproduktionens miljømæssige påvirkning og det stigende behov for bæredygtige byggepraksisser, udforsker projektet, hvordan eksisterende industristrukturer kan bevares og genaktiveres gennem arkitektoniske interventioner frem for nedrivning og nybyggeri.

Gennem teoretiske studier, casestudier og iterative designundersøgelser analyserer projektet, hvordan nye kulturelle og hybride funktioner kan integreres i den eksisterende silo, samtidig med at dens historiske og rumlige kvaliteter bevares. Forslaget omdanner siloen til et teater og offentligt samlingspunkt understøttet af studieområder, café-, restaurant- og barfunktioner, som sikrer aktivitet gennem hele dagen.

Strukturelle undersøgelser og strategier for materialegenbrug udforsker yderligere, hvordan eksisterende betonelementer kan tilpasses og reintegreres på en mere bæredygtig måde. Projektet demonstrerer dermed, hvordan industristrukturer aktivt kan bidrage til nutidig byudvikling og offentligt liv.

This thesis investigates the adaptive reuse of the Hedegaard Silo at Stigsborg Harbourfront in Nørresundby, Denmark, as a strategy for transforming industrial heritage into a contemporary cultural destination. Motivated by the environmental impact of concrete production and the increasing need for sustainable building practices, the project explores how existing industrial structures can be preserved and reactivated through architectural interventions rather than demolition and new construction. Through theoretical studies, case studies, and iterative design explorations, the project examines how new cultural and hybrid programs can be integrated within the existing silo while maintaining its historical and spatial qualities. The proposal transforms the silo into a theatre and public hub supported by study spaces, a café, restaurant, and bar functions, ensuring activity throughout the day. Structural investigations and material reuse strategies further explore how existing concrete elements can be adapted and reintegrated in a more sustainable manner. Ultimately, the project demonstrates how industrial structures can contribute actively to contemporary urban development and public life.
